Kabir, Bhajan “Ud Jayega Huns Akela” - “The Swan Will Fly Away All Alone”

Kabir, the sufi saint, transcended religions and was revered by all. When he died, both Hindus and Muslims wanted to claim his body. Sikhism, for which Sunil also had deep respect, included Kabir’s writings in their holy texts.

Kabir was one of Sunil’s favourite poets- his poetry was compulsory reading in school for Sunil and Anil and they could parrot many of his poems. Recently, Sunil's brother referred Sunil to Bhajan (devotional song) which talks about the flight of the swan, the metaphorical soul.

Ud Jayega Huns Akela

Ud Jayega Huns Akela,

Jug Darshan Ka Mela

Jaise Paat Gire Taruvar Se,

Milna Bahut Duhela

Naa Jane Kidhar Girega,

Lageya Pawan Ka Rela

Ud Jayega Huns Akela,

Jug Darshan Ka Mela

Jub Howe Umur Puri,

Jab Chute Ga Hukum Huzuri

Jum Ke Doot Bade Mazboot,

Jum Se Pada Jhamela

Ud Jayega Huns Akela,

Jug Darshan Ka Mela

Das Kabir Har Ke Gun Gawe,

Wah Har Ko Paran Pawe

Guru Ki Karni Guru Jayega,

Chele Ki Karni Chela

Ud Jayega Huns Akela,

Jug Darshan Ka Mela

The Swan Will Fly Away All Alone

The Swan Will Fly Away All Alone,

The Spectacle of the World is like a mere Carnival

Just as the Leaf Falls from the Tree

And Is Difficult to Find

Who Knows Where it Will Fall

Once it is Struck By a Gust Of Wind

The Swan Will Fly Away All Alone

The Spectacle of the world is like a carnival

When the Span of Life is Complete

Then Listening to Orders, Following Others, Will Be Over

The Messengers of the God of Death Are Very Strong

I’ve run into a problem with Him

The Swan Will Fly Away All Alone

The spectacle of the world is like a carnival

Servant Kabir Praises the Virtues of the Lord

He will Find the Lord Soon

The Guru Will Go According to His Own Doings

The Disciple According to His

The Swan Will Fly Away All Alone

The spectacle of the world is like a carnival
